OpenAssets and Sui Advance Institutional Tokenization Standards Under Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust

OpenAssets and Sui set to collaborate on developing OTAS, an open, agnostic standard hosted by LF Decentralized Trust that defines how tokenized asset systems can seamlessly connect to the Sui ecosystem.
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenAssets, a leading digital asset infrastructure provider, today announced a collaboration with Sui to advance the development of the Open Tokenized Asset Standard (OTAS) within Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust.

Institutions are increasingly issuing tokenized versions of securities, funds, commodities, and other assets, with projections putting the tokenized asset market at $30 trillion by 2034, according to Standard Chartered. Those assets often remain locked inside separate, incompatible systems, and connecting them has historically required time-consuming, expensive custom integration work for every chain involved.
OTAS is designed as a neutral, auditable foundation for identity, compliance, asset representation, and reporting, one institution can build on rather than adopt wholesale. The collaboration focuses on making tokenized financial assets interoperable, meaning they can be moved and verified across different networks without the need for expensive, custom-built software for every single chain. With OTAS available on Sui, assets issued in the Sui ecosystem follow the same open rules as assets on other networks, so their history and status can be trusted wherever they move.
OTAS is an open standards lab hosted at Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust (LFDT), initiated by OpenAssets and sponsored by Sui Foundation, which joined LFDT in September 2026. The lab was formally added to LFDT in Spring 2026, and includes open source smart contract reference implementations for tokenized financial instruments.
Neutral, shared standards have repeatedly helped emerging technology markets scale. The Linux Foundation has spent more than two decades helping build trusted, vendor-neutral governance for technologies including Linux, Kubernetes, and PyTorch. OpenAssets, a Premier Member of LF Decentralized Trust, proposed OTAS to bring that same model of open governance to tokenized capital markets.
"Extending OTAS to Sui makes compliance and ownership history portable, giving institutions a consistent, trusted view of an asset across networks," said Gabor Gurbacs, Chairman and CEO of OpenAssets. "We welcome Sui's contribution to OTAS and the broader effort to build open, interoperable standards for tokenized assets."
"Financial markets have always depended on trusted standards," said Daniela Barbosa, General Manager, Decentralized Technologies, Linux Foundation, and Executive Director, LF Decentralized Trust. "OTAS applies that principle to tokenized assets by creating an open framework that the broader industry can shape together. Sui and OpenAssets are key collaborators helping shape the neutral governance of this LFDT lab as a model for the next generation of digital capital markets."
"The process of issuing tokenized assets is only the first step into a much broader ecosystem. For digital capital markets to grow efficiently, institutions and financial platforms need a common framework for identity, ownership, compliance, and settlement across different systems," said Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui. "OTAS provides that shared language without forcing institutions onto a single blockchain or technology stack. Open standards like this can connect what are today fragmented markets and help unlock the scale and breadth of opportunity that tokenized finance has long promised."
About the OTAS Standard
OTAS (Open Tokenized Asset Standard) is a Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust lab providing open source smart contract reference implementations for tokenized financial instruments. OpenAssets is a founding member of OTAS and proposed the lab, with Sui Foundation as an initial sponsor; OTAS formally launched as an LFDT lab in April 2026. OpenAssets joined LF Decentralized Trust as a Premier Member in January 2026, and Gabor Gurbacs holds a seat on the LF Decentralized Trust Governing Board.
The standard is also designed with an eye toward automated finance. As AI agents take on more tasks such as collateral management, trade execution, and settlement, they require machine-readable, consistent rules for evaluating asset ownership and compliance status. OTAS is built to provide that shared layer, so automated systems can interact with tokenized assets across platforms without custom integration work for every new asset type.
The Open Tokenized Asset Standard is actively being developed today as an open source Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust lab. Financial institutions, infrastructure providers, developers, and other market participants are invited to contribute to its ongoing development. Learn more at openassets.to and sui.io.
